Terrier MIRALab, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland, Radiology Department, Geneva University Hospital, Geneva, Switzerland Introduction Periacetabular osteotomy is an accepted surgical procedure to reorient the acetabulum in patients with hip symptoms of mechanical overload, impingement or femoral head instability [1]. For both the diagnosis and the surgical planning, an accurate estimate of the range of motion of the hip is required. A current project of the CO-ME (Computer-aided and Image Guided Medical Interventions) Swiss NCCR (National Centre of Competence in Research) is to create for each patient a virtual hip derived from its static MRI data for anatomical and functional modelling of the lower limb. As a first step of this project, the present study describes a methodology for anatomical modelling of the hip derived from MRI. A Generic model is build and then used as discrete deformable models to reconstruct any individual models automatically.

Reconstruction 3D des structures anatomiques des membres inférieurs 3D reconstruction of the lower limb anatomical structures

In this article, we are interested in the modelling of the lower limb anatomical structures such as bones, muscles and tendons. The proposed method starts with an MRI acquisition during which the lower limb of a subject is scanned. 3D models are generated after a manual segmentation of the anatomical structures. However, the surface of the generated models appears not to be smooth. Furthermore,...

Fundamentals of 3D modelling and resource estimation in coal mining

The prerequisite of maintaining an efficient and safe mining operation is the proper design of a mine by considering all aspects. The first step in a coal mine design is a realistic geometrical modelling of the coal seam(s). The structural features such as faults and folding must be reliably implemented in 3D seam models. Upon having a consistent seam model, the attributes such as calorific val...

Anatomical, radiographical and computed tomographic study of the limbs skeleton of the Euphrates soft shell turtle (Rafetus euphraticus)

Euphrates turtle is the only soft shell turtle of Iran, and unfortunately is in danger of extinction due to multiple reasons. Imaging techniques, in addition to their importance in diagnosis of injuries to animals, have been used as non-invasive methods to provide normal anatomic views. A few studies have been conducted to understand body structure of the Euphrates turtle. Since there is only g...

Anatomical evaluation of CT-MRI combined femoral model

BACKGROUND Both CT and MRI are complementary to each other in that CT can produce a distinct contour of bones, and MRI can show the shape of both ligaments and bones. It will be ideal to build a CT-MRI combined model to take advantage of complementary information of each modality. This study evaluated the accuracy of the combined femoral model in terms of anatomical inspection. METHODS Six no...

Generation of 3D Canonical Anatomical Models: An Experience on Carpal Bones

The paper discusses the initial results obtained for the generation of canonical 3D models of anatomical parts, built on real patient data. 3D canonical models of anatomy are key elements in a computerassisted diagnosis; for instance, they can support pathology detection, semantic annotation of patient-specific 3D reconstructions, quantification of pathological markers. Our approach is focused ...
